Sports Physiotherapy

When people are competing in sport (professional or amateur) they will generally be loading up very specific tissues for that activity. The focused demand on these tissues can increase risk of damage or injury, especially if technique is not correct. Sports Physiotherapy is a branch of Physiotherapy that focuses on the treatments of these injuries, rehabilitation to pre injury capacity. The Physiotherapist will also prescribe a targeted strengthening/stretching  program to prevent future injury. Many people also seek out a Physiotherapist prior to injury for assessment and advice on preparation for sport or to assist in improving competitiveness.

Post Surgery My Sippy Downs Physio

Post-Surgery Physiotherapy (Prehab & Rehab)

Physiotherapists work closely with Doctors following surgery. Generally, Surgeons will have a post-operative guideline for the Physio to use. The goal of post-operative Physiotherapy is to regain function back to better than pre-operative levels. Physiotherapy intervention can actually start prior to surgery (Prehab). By preparing your body prior to surgery through strengthening, improving joint range and function you can assist your recovery following the surgery. The Physiotherapist will also educate you on what is expected following surgery and familiarise you with the exercises that will be required.

Vestibular Physiotherapy

The Vestibular system is in the inner ear and this sensory appratus tells the brain when you are moving.  these tissues assists in balance, spatial orientation and coordinates your eye movements. The vestibular system sends signals primarily to the neural structures that control eye movements and to the muscles that keep us upright and in general control posture. When there is a problem with this system people experience a sensation of vertigo or dizziness. The most common issue with the vestibular system is a condition called BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo). This condition can be treated by My Sippy Downs Physio with specific movements/exercises and the Physiotherapist may also give other balance related exercises.
